Decorating Cakes
Posted in Uncategorized on 12/09/2009 03:00 pm by adminI have been working as a cake decorator for a number of years and it is a very rewarding job. It’s actually not nearly as hard as it looks once you learn the basics. I work now mostly on the custom order cakes that the bakery receives as I’ve been there the longest of any of the decorators. This is kind of the coveted position since it allows one to be more creative. Today I actually made on of the most interesting cakes I’ve ever designed. It was for a 17 year old girl who loved dragons. I promised her mother that I would make something dragon themed and unique for their party. I ended up cutting a sheet cake into the shape of flames on one end and on the other outlining a dragon (transferred from a picture I had printed out). I filled the dragon outline in with a writing gel so that it looked like scales. It’s hard to describe, but it looked pretty impressive and the customer was ecstatic.
